Professor Richard Ferrero
Prof. Richard Ferrero is Deputy Centre Head and Research Group Leader in the Centre for Innate Immunity at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research and holds Adjunct Professor positions at Monash University.
After completing his PhD at the University of New South Wales in 1990, Prof. Ferrero undertook a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. In 1994, he was appointed to a tenured researcher position before returning to Australia in 2004 to take up an academic research and teaching role in the Department of Microbiology at Monash University.
In 2009, he joined the Monash Institute of Medical Research, returning to full-time research. From 2010 to 2020, he held successive NHMRC Senior Research Fellowships.
Prof. Ferrero's research interests span Helicobacter pylori, bacterial extracellular vesicles, NOD-like receptor proteins and innate immunology. His work has led to significant fundamental and translational advances in bacterial pathogenesis, H. pylori vaccine development and innate immune responses.
His research has been published in leading international journals including Cell Host & Microbe, Gastroenterology, Immunity, Journal of Extracellular Vesicles, Nature Communications, Nature Reviews Immunology, Nature Immunology and PNAS.
Prof. Ferrero is an Associate Editor for Helicobacter, a member of the International Scientific Committee for The International Workshop on Pathogenesis in Helicobacter Infections, and regularly reviews abstracts for major international conferences in the field of H. pylori research.
